APPLE TREE
CANYON LAKES
Tough course with very slick greens. Brett played in State golf Championship..He was 2 over coming into 9, but got caught behind 9 green and took a 10..ouch..I was watching from clubhouse w/o his knowledge...He didn’t show anger...very proud. A man nearby said, “That poor kid.” I say, “That poor kid’s dad.” Played in winter with Brett and Tom..first several holes in snow and ice on greens..chip away to get to the hole. A whole new meaning to "chip and putt".
CLARKSTON
Home course growing up in Clarkston from about age 5 on...Dad a founding member on a 9 hole sand green course in 1937...Once played 81 holes in a day----walking...My two holes in one both on this course...One on s#4 when at WSU and one at #8 (uphill to grandpas house), but only witness was Brett (age 6)..Two great finishing holes, but otherwise fairly flat.
COLUMBIA POINT
CRYSTAL SPRINGS (Pomeroy)
HORN RAPIDS
LOWER VALLEY
MOUNT ADAMS
PULLMAN (no longer there)
This course was played a few times in undergrad at WSU..Not much to shout about...back and forth flat course… no longer there... replaced with tennis courts and a new course built by WSU (Palouse Ridge) that is a wonderful play in the area.
RITZVILLE
ROYAL CITY
SAGE HILLS
18 hole course in the middle of nowhere played as first course on our eastern Washington Prodigal tour. Fairly flat but a good layout. On one hole Bruce Hopkins hit over a noll on the right and toward a green we were playing. I laid down on the green and when Bruce came over the rise he raced to the green....oh well!
SKAMANIA LODGE
ST. JOHN
SUN COUNTRY
SUN TIDES
Brett played this course in Yakima while in town for a visitation to Campbell Farm, Wapato. Rode bike to Seattle, took greyhound to Yakima, rode to Sun Country. Nice, straight forward, cheap course on a hot day. Then rode 20 miles to Campbell Farm to visit and stay the night, then biked back to Yakima the next morning for the bus ride home.
SWALLOW ROCK
TEKOA
WALLA WALLA COUNTRY CLUB
Played this oldest of courses in west as a Jr golfer in a state PNGA tournament. Stayed in Bob and Ann Berger's basement..After 1st round 3 others out and played poker, but I tried to sleep as got to the next rounds..great fun..Played later with Bob Ruper, general mgr. of Nelson Irrigation in Walla Walla. Great fun.
WINE VALLEY
A new course to the area about 10 miles to the west of the city. Rolling hills and generous greens, but very undulating.. tough to read and keep on the green. Played with Bruce Bennett, paralegal at the office. Mom was going to play, but almost 100 degrees and she went shopping instead. Fun play and reminded me of Palouse Ridge (Links style) and really good play.
